It has been a very terrible experience with cloud computing and synchronization since google drive and google photos have been merged under “GOOGLE BACKUP AND SYNC” utility. It is so extremely complicated to understand that even an advanced user can’t get used to it.  Following events in my experience have been very terrible to manage bandwidth and data sync and oneway backup.

1. When you disconnect your google drive folder
2. When you sign out google drive gmail account
3. When you format your system to new or similar OS
4. When you change to new hardware and system
5. When you want to switch and synchronize your data across different systems of yours and family members
6. When you want to migrate your free quota google photos and videos data into drive and vice versa
7. When you empty your phone’s auto uploaded photos and videos into proper computer to customize your data
8. Anything not listed to above, involving mass management of bulk data, like larger files and folders across google backup and sync utility and web interface of google drive.

Any of the above events in single or in combinations are very tough to manage. I have made some decisions based upon my terrible experiences from this. ONE CAN SAY IT A “HARD LEARNED FACTS”. They may or may not remain technically true as google can update its utility functions and server algorithms, but as on today around 13 february 2018, when I am writing this post, following conclusions of these hard learned facts can definitely guide me and also others to play with this utility.

1. You must always link google photos folder to google drive folder from web interface settings to facilitate below mentioned things.
2. Separate your files in two broad categories : one is your photos+videos, and other is rest file types
3. Separate two folders in system where you want to install google backup and sync utility, don’t mix them up
4. Select them differently while installing and loging in with gmail account, first select photos+videos folders, then select google drive folder for rest files types (Manually untick default ticked desktop and documents folder if not needed)
5. Select unlimited high quality options, and then select don’t remove items from everywhere. It will retain web server copy while you remove photos+videos from offline system
6. When you want to just upload, that means only backup to certain files, always keep them in google photos folder, even if they are not photos or video file formats. It will occupy space in google drive. But you can remove them by selecting from web interface, or move them to different pc which has already been disconnected.
7. You can mass mobilize bulk data which you don’t want to download or sync during re-logging in. Follow drag and drop option from web interface of google drive.
