I&#8217;ve already been able to customize the library locations, however there are other things that I like to migrate as well. Moving user profiles to a non-standard location causes problems with the installation and operation of many programs. Maybe it would be enough moving the documents ubication of the user from C to D?<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"comment-text js-comment-text-and-form\">\n<div class=\"comment-body js-comment-edit-hide\"><span class=\"comment-copy\" style=\"color: #000000;\">Contrary to the second paragraph of the answer, I run this setup for many years (2013 IIRC), from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (and through migration) without any issue of any sort. This is not always easy to setup at first, but once in place with sysprep, absolutely no conflicts nor issues. And I think this is for a simple reason: over the versions of Windows, the path to the correct folder changed a lot, not even saying that it is depending on the username, so from an application point of view, not querying the path dynamically would be silly.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"answer-1311723\" class=\"answer\" data-answerid=\"1311723\">\n<div class=\"post-layout\">\n<div class=\"answercell post-layout--right\">\n<div class=\"post-text\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I have had a lot of success using an NTFS junction to redirect the Users directory to another drive. I followed this guide:\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lifehacker.com.au\/2010\/02\/move-the-users-directory-in-windows-7\/\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.lifehacker.com.au\/2010\/02\/move-the-users-directory-in-windows-7\/<\/a>. This guide is for Windows 7, but it also works with 10.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">One thing to remember, though, when in recovery mode and creating the junction. Make sure that the junction points to the correct drive letter in your Windows installation itself. It may be different in recovery. To keep things in order, I used\u00a0<code>diskpart<\/code>\u00a0to change drive letters to match my installation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I would also recommend moving just your user&#8217;s directory. If for whatever reason it&#8217;s inaccessible you won&#8217;t be able to log in. The pop-up error dialog I was receiving was &#8220;Could not sign-in to local profile&#8221; when the directory was corrupted or missing.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"answercell post-layout--right\">\n<div class=\"post-text\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The approach that helped me was renaming the\u00a0<code>ProfileList<\/code>\u00a0entry\u00a0<code>.old<\/code>\u00a0and restarting the machine. After restart I could run\u00a0<code>sysdm.cpl<\/code>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<strong>Advanced<\/strong>\u00a0tab &gt; User Profile\u00a0<strong>Settings<\/strong>\u00a0and delete my temporary profile (<em>&lt;&lt; userid &gt;&gt;.TEMP<\/em>).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Profile List &#8211; Manual Registry Edits<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Registry Hive:\u00a0<code>Computer\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\ProfileList<\/code><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/i.stack.imgur.com\/LRnyx.png\" rel=\"nofollow noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.stack.imgur.com\/LRnyx.png\" alt=\"enter image description here\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After removing the profile and restart, I re-added the user account using\u00a0<code>netplwiz<\/code> and finally restarting.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"answer-1265778\" class=\"answer\" data-answerid=\"1265778\">\n<div class=\"post-layout\">\n<div class=\"answercell post-layout--right\">\n<div class=\"post-text\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>WARNING:<\/strong>\u00a0Create a backup and a restore point before you try this. I messed up once and had to do a restore myself!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Requires local admin.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Move files that you want to keep from your profile somewhere independent, for example directly on the C: or D: drive<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Modify the registry value of\u00a0<code>ProfilesDirectory<\/code>\u00a0under\u00a0<code>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\ProfileList<\/code>\u00a0to point to your new directory. This will only come into effect for new profiles<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Create a temporary user with admin rights on the local computer. This is needed to remove your domain user profile so it can be recreated.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Log out of your account and log into the temporary admin user.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Find Advanced System Settings (for example through Start | Run and typing\u00a0<code>sysdm.cpl<\/code>) and select Settings from the\u00a0<em>User Profile<\/em>\u00a0section.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Find the username of your domain user and click the\u00a0<em>Delete<\/em>\u00a0button<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I recommend using Switch Accounts rather than logging out of the temporary account. That way, if something went wrong, you still have one account that&#8217;s working<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Switch accounts and log in with your domain user.
